Bread

 Bread
My baked item of the week is bread. This is the first time I have ever baked a loaf of bread. It turned out quite well for the first time. There were some issues during the process though.  I did not realize how long it takes to make bread so I stayed up until after 1am baking last night.
I put the bread in the oven to rise for an hour; while it was rising, I decided to take a shower. Well I set the timer on the microwave; I was scared to set the one on the oven because I was worried about the oven turning on. I had just gotten out of the shower and I heard popcorn popping in the microwave and I asked my mom if she had set the timer on the stove, she replied "yes, but for some reason there are two red lights on". I opened the oven and smoke came out. The oven had turned on like I had feared and the bread had risen so much it was touching the top of the oven and the towel was starting to catch on fire. I ended up cutting the top of the dough off but I still had enough to make two loaves.

I now know how to bake bread. . . I also know better than to put it in the oven with my family around.

Hair style- Snake Braid Bun

Snake Braid Bun

I pulled her hair into a side ponytail and then made small snake braids and pinned them up. I left a section of hair, pulled it around, and pinned it into place. I got the inspiration for this hairstyle from the snake braid and a bun on pinterest.

2012 is finished, 2013 is being written

2012 has now ended. It was a year of ups and downs. I finished my Stars and Stripes project (a service project that took well over 200 hours), got my passport, flew for the first time, left America for the first time, had my last first day of High School, I lost some friends and found some new ones, suffered loss and took my first college level class are some of the things I did in 2012.

2013 is a book full of blank pages ready to be written. It will be a year of change for me so I have decided to have a word of the year. In 2012 I began to experience senior year "lasts", it is not easy to move on but it is a part of life. This will be a year of many lasts and many firsts. I will graduate from high school and start college. I hope that I will get my first job. I will need strength to go through this time in my life and I have a Bible verse to go along with it.

"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."~ Phil 4:13

I also have decided that my new year’s resolution is to learn at how to bake at least one new thing a week. I have a rare food allergy that stops me from going to culinary school so instead I will teach myself how to bake. I also aim to learn one new hairstyle a week.

So as the New Year begins, so does a new book. This is page one.
Let the writing begin!
Happy New Year,
Rachel Lee
